Scout Willis has done something very simple and unremarkable: walked around New York topless on a warm summer day, as is every woman’s right and every man’s. But because she posted photos of herself doing it online on services like Instagram and Twitter, she got in trouble for it. That is insane.
The good news is that she is strong and confident and proud and not backing down. Which is why we love her.
(And yes, to respond to every person who has made the suggestion, we have indeed let her know she’s welcome at any of our get-togethers. We bet she’s someone who’d appreciate a good piece of pulp fiction.)
Good for her.
Lovely! Good for her.
A beautiful thing.
God bless her. What trouble could she be in? Employer?
She got banned from Instagram. Granted, that’s not the same degree of trouble as getting fired from a job, but still. Why in the world should she get banned for something that’s completely legal, especially when Instagram permits display of all sorts of visuals that are much more damaging than a view of a woman’s bare torso?
This country is run by Puritans who seem to be offended by the sight of a woman’s breasts. The sight of this beautiful woman would definitely put a smile of my face if I was to encounter her walking along a Manhattan sidewalk. People are just too uptight in our society.
Unfortunately, the case with Social Media is where do they draw the line? Certainly shots of this young lady are not pornographic, however if they allow her posts there would be an avalanche of of others who would begin posting photos that are much less tasteful and/or obscene.
Instagram is owned by Facebook.
Facebook’s rules state that *feeding a baby* is an offensive act that requires the account to be banned.
I thought she was OK on Twitter.
Not that it matters. If a social media site isn’t on board with good pix, just move on to another one. It’s not a human rights issue.
No, it’s not a human rights issue, but not every issue has to be a human rights issue to be worth commenting on or fighting over. Is every last thing you’ve ever complained about or stood up for yourself over a human rights issue? That’s an awfully high bar to clear before you allow someone to express concern or displeasure or disappointment.
And even Twitter is apparently now banning accounts that show a woman’s nipples in their profile or background pictures. But they allow men’s nipples to be shown there. And they allow women’s nipples in individual tweets. Does that make any sense…?
Isn’t this is Demi and Bruce’s daughter? She is brave indeed. Congratulations.
Yes, apparently it is that Scout Willis. Here’s an article about it.

Very interesting. I wonder if she is protesting topless freedom or as the child of 2 famous people just getting her name in public. I think your group is truly acting on their beliefs. I wish you the best.
We’ve had some interactions with her; she is truly acting on her beliefs.
Glad to hear she active.
It is a sad day for democracy when privately owned American corporations become the gatekeepers of social policy. Considering all the damage that has been done to the environment, public health and moral/body shame issues by companies for sheer profit we need to reign these companies and dictate to them how they should behave rather than the other way around.
Privately owned companies have been the gatekeepers of social policy long before anyone ever said dot com.
Does that make sense? Of course not.
I see your point. Dozens of women ought to take to the streets to protest Instagram’s policy. Actually, hundreds, or thousands until Instagram sees the light of day on this.
Thanks for leading the way, Scout!
Way to go, Scout! I’m sorry I’m in New Jersey and who knows what pandemonium would ensue if I walked topless through Journal Square?!
Only one way to find out đŸ˜‰
” We bet she’s someone who’d appreciate a good piece of pulp fiction”
Heh. I see what you did there!
Good for her. I hope she has as much company as she wants, but no more. Some day we will wake up!
Nice confident woman. What a great suntan. Shows she is no stranger to being topless.
May she live in peace and not be hasseled for being who she is and doing what is rightfully hers to do. Being topless in New York City.I agree…privately owned corporations are not democratic and should never dictate policy for us all. I just do not like all the power corporations have-how they pull the strings through the weight of money. Money, or the amount of it ,should never be the touchstone for morality , truth, and behavior!!
Good for her. She is not selling photos of her breasts for money which seems to be alright, if you go to almost any book store and look at the magazines. But to see a woman naturally in public makes more sense and is right.
