As promised, here we are on the grass in Washington Square Park before our recent adventure at Ayza Wine Bar; it was gorgeous and glorious. And we have more gatherings like it planned! Not just for later in August, either. We plan to keep meeting in September and beyond, as long as the weather holds up. Last year we were out on Halloween, and the year before that we even met once in December, it was so warm out.
If you’re a body-positive, book-loving New York woman who’d enjoy hanging out with other such, drop us an email at toplesspulpfiction[AT]gmail[DOT]com and we’ll get you onto our super-secret invite list. Don’t let the season pass you by without feeling the sun and the breeze on your bare breasts! It’s your right and your privilege, and you’ll kick yourself when down-parka weather returns…
When it gets too cold in NY you are welcome at Haulover Beach
you girls rock
I’m down in Miami! I love your page and I will definetly try to start one down here.
You are more than welcome at Haulover Beach. I am usually behind Lifeguard #13 and would love to meet you.
Appreciate it. But getting the group of of NYC isn’t very likely.
I’m really enjoying your get-togethers. I’m a little disappointed that more women in other parts of New York state aren’t doing the same thing.
I say this totally jokingly / lightheartedly: I was telling a couple (guy) friends today about your group and we realized – your right to go topless was legitimized contesting a law that discriminated against women. But now you discriminate against (some) men from joining your club ; )
Understand the light-hearted spirit. But that’s not “discrimination,” unless it’s also “discrimination” to say no when I’m eating lunch at a restaurant with some girlfriends and you ask to sit down and join us. We all get to hang out in the park (or in restaurants, etc.) with our friends rather than with strangers we don’t know. “Discrimination” is the government saying “Men can hang out in this park, women can’t.” (Or vice versa.) If you want to go to the park with a group of women and all hang out topless, you’re totally free to do it. Just find a group of women who want to do it with you, and you’re all set.
That is a valid point, Mike.
The trouble is that while we’ve made progress establishing *legal* equality for men & women, we are only just starting to establish *social* equality.
We can safely assume that any woman who contacts OCTPFAS and asks to join is supportive of the group’s ideals.
We cannot make the same assumption about men who ask to join – some will genuinely believe in 21st-century values, but a substantial fraction are really just interested because “boobies”. (In which case they should go hang out in seabird colonies in the East Pacific, where they will find plenty of boobies.)
Until a substantial majority of men fall in the former category, it will be difficult or impossible to create female-friendly spaces without some kind of restrictive vetting of unknown males. (KFFBS rejects about two-thirds of our membership requests on the grounds that an introduction of “hi im 52 m like gettin naked” means that you didn’t read the group’s description and wouldn’t understand its purpose.)
Reblogged this on Naturist Holidays in Europe and commented:
Perfect once more!
What a beautiful late summer outing.
Great answer to Mike. I agree with you 100%. Larry Fleischman (Unofficial) Mayor of Haulover Beach/
Hopefully you will empower women and men everywhere to shed those old tired hang-ups!
Keep it up, you are making a great statement.

Why not consider forming more Topless Book Clubs in other cities? Is the law different in NYC that other cities? I would think that “topless” should not discriminate between men and women and if it does, it should be challenged. We live in a puritanical country and I am encouraged by your movement.
Yes, the law is different. In most places it is illegal for women to go topless in public.
What happened? No sun last Sunday (24 Aug)?
We didn’t plan any events for last Sunday. There was the “GoToplesss Day” event for anyone who wanted to do that, but we sat it out. But we’re meeting twice this week. 🙂
Gee guys, sorry for my late late reply. I don’t really know how WordPress works yet.
And a big thanks for spreading love and acceptance!
