We heard from our sister group in Australia again with more photos from their visit to their local beach. And this being the 4th of July, we figured it was as good a time as any to share them with you. We love this group of proud, independent, body-positive ladies and hope someday soon they come to NYC for a visit.
We, meanwhile, have no beach trip planned for the holiday, but we’re delighted to take this opportunity to look back at past visits to Coney Island…
New York City is not blessed with truly great beaches, alas, and certainly not ones where we’re able to be as completely free as our Aussie friends. But we do still enjoy a touch of sand and sea. So another outing to the shore may be in our future.
Would you like to come with us if we do go? Or to any of our in-the-city events, for that matter? Just email us at toplesspulpfiction@gmail.com. We welcome all like-minded women to come beat the heat with us.
I think the photographer from the Australian group needs to take notes from your NYC photographers. All of your photos have the appearance of passing around the camera and allowing each person to take a few photos. The Australian photographer, I assume it a guy, has something else on his mind.
That’s funny! Almost all our NYC photos are taken by one photographer, and meanwhile the photographers in Australia are all girls. (Of course that doesn’t mean they don’t have something else on their mind.)
Lovely day for an afternoon at the beach with friends
What a gorgeous Beach. And I found the photos of the ladies to be very moving. Power to the people.
The first photo is yet again another lovely reminder of how women exist in all shapes and sizes and each are uniquely beautiful.
Being liberated is so rewarding. Have you considered a trip to Gunnison Beach in New Jersey?
We have — it’s just such a trek! Arranging for cars, a bus, the ferry…so much easier to just hop on the subway and be in Coney Island an hour later. Not as much fun, but much easier. We might do a Gunnison trip at some point, but it definitely takes more planning and more effort.
Isn’t the first photo (group photo on the beach, with only your backs shown) also of you NYC-based girls? I recognized the white-dotted orange bikini bottom and the black bottom of the lady with the light-brown “bun” on her hair. Your introduction somehow seemed to me to be referring to that first picture as one of the Australia-based group.
Yes, the first photo is from Coney Island. It’s the next two photos that are from Australia.
Yes, I know it’s art, and art has leeway to do pretty much a whole lot more than everyday life allows, but I thought you might appreciate another event from Australia: Tunick’s “Return of the Nude”.

They (Aussies) have taken their freedom to a higher level.
